The Historic Chicago Bungalow Association is a partner in the Historic Chicago Bungalow Initiative, a unique collaboration of the City of Chicago Departments of Housing and Enviromnent and the Chicago Architecture Foundation, created to celebrate and preserve the Chicago Bungalow and bungalow communities. There are approximately 80,000 bungalows, one-third of Chicago's single-family housing stock, that create a veritable belt around the city center. Launched by Mayor Richard M. Daley in September of 2000, the initiative is designed to foster an appreciation of the Chicago Bungalow as a distinctive housing type, encourage sympathetic rehabilitation of Chicago Bungalows, and assist bungalow owners with adapting their homes to current needs.
